He Diana Theaterand cultural icon in Guadalajara, celebrates 19 years of being a national and international reference in the city’s artistic scene. Since its inauguration in 2005, this venue has witnessed a wide range of events ranging from dance, music and theater performances to film screenings.
Designed by architect Julio de la Peña, the Diana Theater It was originally known as Cinema Diana, inaugurated on July 28, 1965.
- After closing in 1995, it was remodeled and reopened in 2005 by the University of Guadalajara. Since then, it has been the scene of internationally renowned productions, such as Michael Flatley’s “Lord of the Dance” and performances by great figures such as Luciano Pavarotti.
Throughout its modern history, the Diana Theater has been directed by three visionary directors: María Luisa Meléndez, Santiago Valencia and currently Karla Zapata, who have kept the multidisciplinary essence of the venue alive.
With more than two thousand events, five thousand performances and nearly four million attendees, the Diana Theater has established itself as a cultural meeting point in Guadalajara.
Among the artists who have stepped on its stage are names like Anna Netrebko, Goran Bregovic, Hugh Laurie, Noel Gallagher, Garbage, White Lies, Kaiser Chiefs, Facundo Cabral, Alberto Cortez, Raphael, Buika, Diego the Cigarette, Shepherd Girl, Andrew Calamaro, Lila Downs, Natalia Lafourcade, Babasonics, and many more more.
For the coming months, the Diana Theater has one prepared exciting concert lineup, which includes performances by José Madero, Andrew Bird, Los Panchos, Los Ángeles Negros, Lila Downs, Alex Fernández, Babasónico, Bruce Dickinson, Enjambre, Reyno, David Bisbal and La Maldita Vecindad, among others. With this varied programming, the Diana Theater continues its legacy as a vibrant cultural space in the heart of Guadalajara.
