Why you won’t be thrilled by the movie “Spencer”

In “Spencer”, director Pablo Larraín and writer Steven Knight focus on the last Christmas party, which Diana spent in the early 1990s on Sandringham, the seat of the royal family in Norfolk. In these crucial days, she is said to have decided that her marriage to Prince Charles, 72, could no longer be saved. The film shows the moments when Diana realized that she had to deviate from her path.
“I knew her [Prinzessin Diana] personally, it’s obvious that the royals won’t like the biopic at all, “the expert told Us Weekly.” They won’t like it, but they will have expected it. It’s the truth. I think the most important thing is how well the actress can interpret the role. ”
Is “Spencer” true?
In June 2020 it was announced that Kristen Stewart, 30, would be playing Lady Di in the biopic. The similarity between the American and the princess cannot be overlooked in the first film photos, says Jobson. More important, however, is “the authenticity of the portrait and it remains to be seen how that develops because as far as I know it’s a good script and that’s a good premise. But it may not have happened the way they say it did,” explains he.
Royal experts doubt its authenticity
The background to his skepticism is a current discussion by Royal experts who question the authenticity of the film, as it is supposed to be a weekend at Sandringham that supposedly never took place. According to Robert Jobson and biographer Ingrid Seward, Princess Diana had not paid any visits to Sandringham for a long time before that weekend. She is said to have made the decision to marry Prince Charles “years before”.
“The film will portray that she made the decision to get a divorce there, but she never made that decision. I don’t think she was on Sandringham after 1990 and the film is set in 1991,” Jobson told im Interview for “The Royal Beat”.
