Ice dance skaters Diana Davis, who is the daughter of coach Eteri Tutberidze, and Gleb Smolkin, representing Georgia, became the winners of the Ice Dance International tournament in Lake Placid (New York, USA).
The winners in total for two dances scored 191.82 points (74.35 points for the rhythm dance + 117.47 points for the free dance). The second place was taken by the Americans Una and Gage Brown (180.66; 75.26 + 105.40), the third was the pair of Eva Pate and Logan Bai (177.95; 72.78 + 105.17) from the USA.
Tarasova called the debut of her daughter Tutberidze for the Georgian national team successful
The Lake Placid tournament was the first for Davis and Smolkin since the 2022 Winter Olympics, which took place a year and a half ago. There they took 14th place, gaining 179.82 points on the sum of two rentals.
At the beginning of the summer, it became known that Davis and Smolkin would play for Georgia from next season. The head coach of the Russian national team, Elena Chaikovskaya, then said that “they did not take part in any competitions for a year and a half after the Olympic Games, no money was spent on them, so we let them go.”
However, Davis and Smolkin were included in the lists of candidates for the national figure skating team in the 2022/23 sports season and received financial support from the federal budget. During that period, they never played for the Russian team.
Davis is the daughter of leading Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze. Gleb Smolkin is the son of Russian actor Boris Smolkin. The couple lives and trains in the USA, last season the skaters missed all Russian competitions. The duet in the 2021/22 season took second place in the Russian Championship, seventh place in the European Championship and 14th place in the Olympics.
