Diana Arbenina’s Concert in Tomsk Canceled Due to Controversy

Singer Diana Arbenina said that the concert of his group “Night Snipers”, scheduled for November 23 at the Sports Palace in Tomsk, will not take place.

“Without explanation, the concert in Tomsk was canceled and the contract was unilaterally terminated. I personally sincerely apologize to all our public for the disappointment; for the money spent; for stolen powers. I was looking forward to this concert no less than you. Tomsk has always been and remains an advanced city with a wonderful young audience. We love you!” — wrote artist on social networks.

As Interfax was told in the Department of Culture of the Tomsk Region, the concert was canceled by the management of the venue due to complaints from local residents. “When it became known about the concert, we and the Sports Palace began to receive appeals from the population with complaints about the singer’s allegedly incorrect statements on the current situation. As a result, the Sports Palace decided not to hold the concert,” told acting head of the department Elena Shagova.

According to her, the department alone received several dozen complaints. “Initially, we responded that the singer performed in other cities without any problems and even sang songs with the wife of a SVO participant, but the flow of requests did not stop. The Sports Palace also received such letters,” the official added.

In 2014, Diana Arbenina spoke out against the annexation of Crimea, and in April 2022 she performed an anti-war song at a concert in Chelyabinsk “Do not be silent”.

After February 24, 2022, concerts of Diana Arbenina and “Night Snipers” canceled or postponed in Volgograd, Kazan, Saratov, Perm, Cheboksary, Ulyanovsk, Tolyatti, Yoshkar-Ola and Ulan-Ude.

In the spring of 2023, activist Vitaly Borodin turned to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation with a request to check the leader of the Night Snipers group under the article of “discrediting” the Russian army because of its political position and attitude towards the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On October 22, at a concert in Novosibirsk, Arbenina invited the wife of a military man who took part in the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the stage, and together with her sang the song “A Second Ago.”
