Diamond worth 15 crores found in electricity meter after 21 years, judge compares twist with Satyajit Ray’s film

New Delhi: In the case of robbery of a diamond worth 15 crores, the trial went on for 21 years in the district court of Kolkata. The police also managed to nab the accused but the precious diamond was never recovered. Seeing the dramatic manner in which this diamond was found after 21 years, even the judges could not stop themselves from reacting to it. Returning the diamond, he compared the entire episode to Satyajit Ray’s Feluda classic film ‘Joy Baba Felunath’.

In the film, the accused had hidden the precious thing in the idol of Durga Maa inside her lion. In this incident of robbery, the accused had hidden the diamond inside the meter under the stairs at their house. This incident happened in the year 2002 in South Kolkata. Its owner Pranav Kumar Roy wanted to sell the 32 carat Golconda Diamond, for which he was looking for a buyer. In June the same year, diamond broker Inderjit Tapadia reached him with a party. Roy said that the way both were looking at the diamond, he got suspicious. He asked to return the diamond.

Hero robbed at gunpoint
According to Roy, Inderjeet immediately took out the gun and handed over the diamond to another person accompanying him. Roy had a scuffle with Inderjeet. The person accompanying the accused dropped Roy on the ground, after which both of them fled. The police probing the case were successful in nabbing the accused but the diamond was not recovered from them. Several times his house was searched by the police but every effort proved futile. Although, the police believed that this diamond is present in this house but they are not able to find it.

After so many years of investigation and court case, once again the police investigated the house of the accused. This time it was decided that a different pattern would be searched, in which this diamond was found inside the electricity meter under the staircase of the house. Judge Anand Shankar Mukhopadhyay returned the diamond to the merchant, comparing the entire episode to Satyajit Ray’s film ‘Joy Baba Felunath’.
