Diamond League, Italy shines in the final: Fabbri wins in the shot put (with the Italian record), Tamberi in the high jump and Iapichino in the long jump

Great night for Italy in the final of the Diamond League in Brussels. Three high-level successes arrived that relaunch three Italians (Fabbri, Tamberi and Iapichino) who had not managed to reach the podium at the Paris Olympics.

The most significant undertaking was probably offered Leonardo Fabbri, that Tuscan won the diamond in the shot put. Lor did so, among other things, also setting a new Italian record with a measurement of 22.98. Fabbri improved his own record by 3 centimeters with his first throw, which he had established in Savona on May 15. The Italian left behind three-time Olympic champion Ryan Crouser who failed to throw more than 22.79. Jamaican Rajindra Cambell came in third with 21.95. “I’ve been dreaming of this diamond all my life. I knew that the only way to beat Crouser would be to shoot it all in the first throw, and so it was. I know I’m worthy of the European record (23.06 meters, ed.) and also the world record (23.56) and next year I’ll try in every way: with the wonderful people around me, everything is possible”.

Tamberi wins the high jump with 2.34

Great news for Italy also in the high jump, where Gianmarco Tamberi achieved his third career success in the Diamond League Finals. ‘Gimbo’ won with a height of 2.34. In second place was the Ukrainian Oleh Doroshchuk with 2.31. “I’m much calmer than in Paris even if I still have a bit of regret,” he commented. “Jumping 2.34 with 10 degrees means everything. It’s a strong signal, we can and must react as I did. I dedicate this victory to all those who were close to me in those days. After the Olympics I did five competitions, I won four: let’s start again from here.”

Second was the American Monaè Nichols with 6.68.
