Cooperation, science policy
The Science Meets Regions program of the European Commission promotes the exchange between science and politics at regional and local level. The Rhein-Main Universities (RMU) – Technical University Darmstadt, Goethe University Frankfurt and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz – were selected for a pilot project. As part of the program, they will offer dialogue formats for representatives from Hessian and Rhineland-Palatinate state institutions and city administrations from the Rhine-Main area over the course of 2023. The program enables dialogue between science and practice on the topics of green and digital transformation.
Frankfurt a. M. / Darmstadt / Mainz, January 17, 2023
In March, representatives from state institutions and city administrations will visit research institutions of the LOEWE center emergenCITY and the research field Energy and Environment at the TU Darmstadt. Up to 100 personal talks with researchers from the Rhine-Main universities and other scientific institutions in the region are planned for May.
The President of the TU Darmstadt Professor Dr. Tanja Brühl emphasizes the importance of the exchange between science and practice: “Shaping the green and digital transformation is of enormous importance for our economy and our society. Researchers at the Rhein-Main Universities are working on solutions to design these transformation processes – be it to accelerate the energy transition, to preserve biodiversity, to questions of cyber security or the automation of work processes. In order to jointly develop good solutions for local needs, we as universities are in close contact with our partners from practice. We are therefore very pleased about the pilot funding from the European Commission, which enables such a dialogue with representatives from state institutions and city administrations!
The Science Meets Regions program of the joint research center of the European Commission supports eight other dialogue initiatives in the European Union in addition to the Rhine-Main Universities.
