The 2024 season of the Mexican Baseball League began with the inaugural series between the Diablos Rojos del México and Pericos de Puebla at the Hermanos Serdán Stadium where the pingos managed to emerge with the victory with just one run, taking the first game of three this 11 April going straight to the top of the South zone.
It all started with a run produced by a hit by Danny Ortiz for the Pericos, then Atistides Aquino arrived to tie the score. Then Juan Carlos Gamboa sent the pingos to the top of the scoreboard in the third inning, but the pleasure was short-lived because Leo Germán tied it in the third with a 2-2 score.
Already in the fourth inning things went in favor of Pericos because Raudy Read scored a single to left field to set the tone for Peter O’Brien to score the third run and Franklin Barreto arrived to hit a single with a ground ball for Julián Ornelas scored the tie for the Red Devils.
In the sixth inning Robinson Canó produced the fourth run for the Red Devils with a high home run to right field that the Pericos de Puebla could not stop. Miguel Guzmán was in charge of sending a fly ball to right for Drew Stankiewicz to score and tie the score 4-4, then Danny Ortiz hit a ground ball to produce the fifth run for the Pericos.

Puebla took the lead with six runs after a series of confusions and revised plays, the sixth run was considered good for the locals; However, Diablos Rojos closed the gap on the scoreboard by scoring the fifth in the eighth inning and in it 3 more runs were produced with a fly ball to the right that made the score 8-6 in favor of the pingos.

The locals did not let themselves fall, they pushed on the offensive and managed to score the seventh score to place themselves one below their rivals, so the last episode of this confrontation was a real ‘hell’ for the Pericos since they made them suffer in the bottom of the ninth, leaving them with no chance of tying the score and completing their first victory this season.
