Diablos Rojos blanks Sultanes 17-0 in second game of King Series

With a historic shutout, the Diablos Rojos del México signed their second victory in the Mexican Baseball League King Series after beating the Sultanes de Monterrey 17-0 to continue with a 2-0 lead heading into game three for the title.

It is the shutout with the largest difference in runs in the history of the league, while the 17 runs are the third highest number achieved by the scarlet team in a final series. The record with the largest score until now was registered in 2010 when the Saraperos de Saltillo beat the Pericos de Puebla 21-2.

After waiting ten years to return to the King’s Series, the Pingos have made it clear that they will not waste the opportunity to win the 17th title in their history and increase their legacy as the tournament’s biggest winners.

Now, in the second game of the series played at the Alfredo Harp Helú stadium, the Diablos Rojos decided the game before the fifth inning with a home run party. Arístides Aquino opened the scoring in the second inning with a home run that drove in three runs.

The scarlet team increased their lead in the fifth inning with an eight-run rally, after Robinso Canó hit a home run and a hit. Then Julián Ornelas came to hit a second home run of the afternoon, as well as a double and a single with which he drove in five runs,

Pitcher Erick Leal took the win after being forceful after working six innings in which he only allowed two hits with eight strikeouts.

In contrast, the Sultans had their worst game of the season and pitcher Tyler Viza took the loss after allowing seven runs in four innings.
