We’ve seen a lot of “busted builds” in Diablo IV since the game launched, but according to general manager Rod Fergusson, that’s not a problem. Fergusson believes we create our best moments in the game when we feel supernaturally strong.
In a recent interview with Electronic Playground Network Fergusson explained a little more about what he meant. “Sometimes you focus on balance and not on fun”, he began. “You can think that ‘everything has to be on the same level’ and that you really strive for fairness, but the thing about a Diablo game is that when you feel like you’re cheating, or you feel like you’ve cheated the development team by exploiting a or other exploit, it can feel really, really fun. So that’s what we’ve tried to embrace, and now in Season 2 the Ball-Lightning Sorc’ [build] ridiculous but we just say “let them have fun and we’ll deal with it later.”.
So Fergusson is not saying that your unnatural build is going to exist forever. It’s more of a “enjoy it while you can” kind of thing. Over time we will see new updates, improvements and downgrades that will give us new overpowered builds to enjoy. But for now, don’t feel bad about making the ball-flashing wizard.
