Seasons are nothing new to the franchise, but the way they are implemented as part of Diablo IVThe live service element makes a big difference here.

As Blizzard notes, when the season ends, your seasonal character will move to the Immortal Realms, where you can continue to play as you please.
Also featured in the quick overview are several gameplay options. As in normal gameplay, you will be given the choice of being hardcore (permadeath) and skipping the campaign or not. As suggested in the video, you must complete the campaign with any character in the immortal world once before the season stamp launches. It appears you can play through the campaign as a seasonal character if you wish, but you won’t begin accessing the actual seasonal content until you ditch Lilith at least once.
One potential complication: There are only 10 character slots in the game. This may not be a big deal at this point in the early days Diablo IVbut it makes us wonder what will happen when those seasons start to add up.

Just like with creating a new Eternal, potion capacity developments and bonuses from the Lilith statue and other ongoing unlocks will carry over to new characters, so you won’t be catching up each season.

While there are 27 free levels for you to play, there are more than 60 that will require you to spend money to reap the rewards. Naturally, you have to buy premium currency to buy battle tickets. Let’s take a moment to breathe. It’s never clear, is it? So, here are the details of the costs. You have two options: Premium, for 1,000 Platinum ($10), and Accelerated, for $2,800 ($24.99). As you might expect, Accelerated lets you go through up to 20 levels in the Battle Pass and you get exclusive emotes. One jump costs 200 platinum.

Note: If you purchased the Digital Deluxe or Ultimate Edition, you already own the pass, but you must redeem it at the shop under Seasons.
How do you progress through the Battle Pass?
As you play throughout the season, you will earn a “Service” of standard performance Diablo Things: kill crap and quests. Seasons also contain goals that are included in a “Season Journey”.
