The second part of Path of Exile was supposed to appear in the Early Access program on November 15, but the developers said they needed more time.
Path of Exile 2 will be released on December 6 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S and PC. The wait time is short, but it can be critical for the studio, which gets extra days to put the finishing touches on it.
Game director Jonathan Rogers admitted that the problem is not with the game itself or the content, but because the developers need more time to debug the infrastructure:
A studio representative confirmed that the integration of the two games was a major flaw. The studio wants to make sure players don’t lose previously purchased items.
“One of our main promises was that all microtransactions would work in both Path of Exile I and Path of II. To achieve this, we had to integrate accounting systems not only for Path of Exile I and II, but also for consoles. This meant changing many things. It was necessary not only to create new systems, but also to ensure that old data were compatible back with them.
And when you start moving old databases that contain so much information, you find all kinds of strange demons in them. How to get the same name on multiple accounts? How to get the same email address at multiple accounts? How do multiple accounts have the same Steam ID? Why is this person’s account name just random indecipherable gibberish?
We have to tune everything to perfection so that no one loses anything they paid for and no one has a corrupt account. At the same time, since we’re changing all the backend code, we need to do a lot of load testing to make sure the whole thing doesn’t crash with the large number of players we expect during deployment launched. .
I believe that we will be able to meet the original release date, but I am no longer sure that we will be able to do it without errors. And we just can’t make mistakes like that. Based on this, we decided to stop it.
Now it’s totally my fault. I didn’t leave enough time to make sure everything was done. And I’m really sorry. It’s really hurt.”
Grinding Gear Games is planning another broadcast, which will show content from Early Access.
“In about four weeks there will be a live stream where we’ll talk about all the content you can expect as part of Path of Exile II Early Access. You can imagine this is the biggest ad we’ve ever done. I can’t wait to tell you about the endgame content the team has been working hard on. In the meantime, thank you for your support.”
