Diablo 4 has a new game director, audio design covered in quarterly updates

Source: Blizzard Entertainment

Blizzard Entertainment provided another quarterly update for Diablo 4 on Thursday. As the next major entry in the action RPG series, Blizzard offers updates on all aspects of the game. As of this update, Joe Shely is now the Diablo 4 Game Director, replacing Luis Barraga, one of several staff members to be removed from Blizzard. This comes when Activision Blizzard faces a lawsuit, and the company is accused of allowing a sexist work environment to grow.

While previous quarterly updates focused on character design, Blizzard covered how the team recorded audio for various Diablo 4 spells, effects, monsters, and regions.

Blizzard’s audio team also notes that sound is almost never reproduced. appropriate in the same way twice, with differences caused by wind and air pressure, environment, and more. As a result, the team wanted to introduce a bit of random variation in the atmospheric sounds players hear as they explore the game world. Blizzard concludes this update by noting that the next quarterly update focuses on the endgame and the different visual effects.

Diablo 4 currently does not have a release window. In our interview with the team, Blizzard talked about PvP, cross-play, and more.
