A Diablo 2 Resurrected speedrunner got his hands on the rarest drop and immediately sold it to a merchant for 35,000 gold, interrupting his playthrough for a while.
A Diablo 2 and Diablo 4 speedrunner named Kano was streaming an attempt at a world record as an Assassin when Zod’s rune suddenly sparkled among a pile of loot – a clear indication of its incredible rarity.
Rune of Zod! My highest trophy for all speedruns. By the way, this is the first Zod rune that I have found.
However, this trinket did not last long in the inventory – Kano immediately took it to a merchant to sell it for 35,000 gold, to the amazement of everyone onlookers.
Let’s explain the numbers. The Diablo 2 Resurrected community agrees that Zod’s Rune is the rarest item in the game. According to the D2RuneWizard website, the best drop rate is a quest drop from Baal in Hell Mode, and even that is 1 in 2,987,183. Whether it’s worth 35,000 gold is up to you to decide.
There is some debate that the Might of Tiriel is even rarer. But here a lot depends on the original Diablo 2 or the Resurrected remaster. The latter features special Terror Zones that periodically increase the levels of monsters above yours – this makes it easier to farm the endgame for things like Tiriel’s Might. However, for the Terror Zones to appear, you still need to defeat Baal – and this is exactly the end point for most speedruns.
The bottom line is that both items are incredibly rare, although Zod’s rune will likely take the title of rarest given the popularity of Resurrected and the fact that speedrunners like Kano will immediately sell it to traders anyway.
