This was revealed by a disease specialist in the Endocrine, Metabolic and Diabetes division at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, FKUI, Dr Farid Kurniawan, SpPD, PhD.

According to him, if the blood sugar test results show that it is outside normal limits, it will be confirmed with several examinations.

“In general, at the age of 30 we recommend checking blood sugar. Later, if we get blood sugar results outside normal limits, we will confirm with several tests,” said Farid in Jakarta, Sunday (12/11), as reported Between.

Screening, said Farid, can also be done on people who are overweight, have high blood pressure and have a smoking habit.

Diabetes screening is recommended because the age of most people suffering from diabetes is usually over 40 years, or between 30 and 60 years. For this reason, examinations need to be carried out to create awareness that even though you are young, you are not necessarily free from diabetes.

Farid said that the latest data on diabetes prevalence figures in 2018 shows that 9 out of 10 or 8.9 percent of Indonesians have diabetes. Unfortunately, 3 out of 4 people with diabetes or 75 percent are undiagnosed.

Therefore, early detection procedures are also carried out as an effort to reduce premature death rates due to diabetes in Indonesia.

This is also what the Ministry of Health advocates for.

“That’s what yesterday the Ministry of Health carried out advocacy, their plan is to increase screening of diabetes sufferers in order to reduce the premature death rate from diabetes in Indonesia,” he said.
