In this regard, Dr. Sayed Hammad, a professor of clinical nutrition at the National Institute of Nutrition, said that grapes of all kinds are summer fruits that it is preferable to avoid when suffering from diabetes.

Hammad explained that grapes lead to high blood sugar, and the reason is due to its high glycemic index and its high content of sugars and carbohydrates.

The glycemic index of grapes is 56 degrees, according to the “Glycemic Index Guide” website.

The professor of clinical nutrition added: “If a diabetic patient wants to eat grapes, there is no objection to that, but it must be consumed in moderation, because excessive consumption raises blood sugar.”

He revealed that the permissible amount of grapes for diabetics per day should not exceed 12 tablets, equivalent to half a cup, to ensure that blood sugar levels do not disturb after eating it.

Hammad stressed, “If a diabetic patient adheres to this amount of grapes, his body will obtain a variety of nutrients necessary for his health, such as carbohydrates, protein, dietary fiber, antioxidants, and water.”

And high blood sugar is not the only danger that threatens a diabetic patient when excessive grapes are consumed, but also causes him to have allergies, diarrhea, bloating and gas, according to the “Healthshots” website.
