The glycemic index (GI) measures the effect a particular food has on blood sugar levels. People who want to control their levels should choose foods with low or moderate GI scores. 1. Whole Wheat Bread
Most types of bread have a high carbohydrate content, so they quickly raise blood sugar levels. As a result a lot of bread should be avoided. However, bread made with 100 percent whole grain bread has a low GI score, at 55 or less on the GI scale.
Whole wheat bread has a lower GI than regular whole wheat bread because the ingredients go through less processing. Processing removes the fibrous outer shell of grains and cereals. Fiber slows digestion and helps stabilize blood sugar levels.
