“Diabe”: The police delete the photos

Apart from journalists, no other person was authorized to take photos during the intervention of the police during the demonstration of the 11 candidates yesterday in Manakambahiny. Everyone who took out their cell phones and took photos and videos of the event were immediately chased down and arrested. They were all ordered to delete their recordings and photos, particularly those which highlight law enforcement in action. This is what happened to a mother who followed the demonstration from afar. After she took a few photos, balaclava-clad law enforcement officers chased her and forced her to delete the photos she took. Under pressure, the latter reluctantly agreed to delete all the videos and photos she had taken. The same thing happened to a young man who took a photo of the raid of the police on the Tsimbazaza side, going to disperse the numerous people who came to respond to the call of the 11 candidates, to the so-called “cauliflower” movement. .

As for the demonstration of the 11 candidates yesterday in general, everything happened calmly from Bel Air, the starting point, to Manakambahiny. The supporters of the movement were able to maintain calm despite the presence of individuals who tried to sow trouble among the demonstrators. This is the case observed in Miandrarivo where a man displayed a sword and threatened journalists and some demonstrators. For the moment, we do not know exactly the intentions of this individual, but in any case, the demonstrators were able to continue their journey. Despite this incident, the collective of candidates managed to reach Manakambahiny, their destination, where they were able to give speeches in front of their supporters. It was at this moment that elements of the police, coming from Tsimbazaza, intervened to disperse the crowd. According to estimates, there were more than a hundred of them, including soldiers, gendarmes and police officers.
