Ángel Di María was replaced on Sunday for a striking reason during the league match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Nantes. The attacker of the Parisian top club was replaced when it turned out that his family had been brutally robbed at home.
During the second half of the game, PSG sports director Leonardo reported on the sidelines to tell trainer Mauricio Pochettino the news. Pochettino immediately took Di María to the side and escorted him to the dressing room. Not much later, Di María hurried home.
Due to curfews, Di María’s family was at home at the time of the burglary. As far as is known, the family of the 104-time international was unharmed in the robbery.
PSG took a 1-0 lead against Nantes, but just before the substitution of Di María, Nantes came on the same level. After replacing the Argentinian, the visitors even surprisingly won (1-2).
“The situation with Di María may explain the defeat. It should not be an excuse, but it did take some energy from us,” Pochettino said after the game about the home defeat.
Marquinhos parents are also victims of burglary
Di María was not the only PSG player to be hit by sad private circumstances on Sunday evening. Captain Marquinhos’ parents were also victims of a burglary during the match against Nantes.
The Brazilian’s parents’ house is located in the same area. Marquinhos has said in a message on Instagram that everyone is unharmed and that everything is going well.
PSG is shared second with Olympique Lyon in the Ligue 1, three points behind leader Lille OSC. There are still nine rounds of play to go.
