Mahendra Singh Dhoni, one of the best cricketers the world has ever seen as a star and captain, stopped playing on international platforms in 2020. Even before that, he had heard a lot of news, but he did not show interest in official retirement. However, it is said that Dhoni has decided to retire by the 2019 World Cup, former national bowling coach R. Sridhar. The revelation is in the book ‘Coaching Beyond – My Days with the Indian Cricket’.
According to the book, the captain revealed the decision to his teammate Pant on the reserve day of the India-New Zealand semi-final match. “I don’t like to miss the last bus,” Dhoni said.
“I was sure that it was the last game that Dhoni played for the country that day. He had not announced it. But I knew. Because during their conversation, when Rishabh Pant asked Dhoni about leaving for London, the captain replied that it was the last bus ride with the team and he didn’t want to miss it,” Sridhar says in the book.
That match was Dhoni’s last match in the national jersey. New Zealand won the game. Dhoni, who continued to be the captain of Chennai in the IPL, still hasn’t stopped playing.
