New Delhi: Former India captain Gautam Gambhir has come out in support of young Indian cricketer Shubhman Gill. Gambhir demanded that Gill not be dropped from the team even if he is out for one or two matches. Gill makes his Test debut in the Boxing Day Test against Australia. Prithviraj Shah has been dropped from the squad for the first Test in Adelaide. Gill, who made his ODI debut in 2019, has not been named in the squad since.
Gambhir said it was a blessing for Gill to be able to play his debut match in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium. It remains to be seen whether Shubhman Gill will succeed as the opening batsman. But playing the first match of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne is nothing bigger. I hope the team management will trust Shubhman Gill.
Because if you trust someone, you should give him more opportunities. Shubhman Gill opens and takes 20–30 runs. When Rohit Sharma came later, it was unfair to remove Gill from the team. Just as Dhoni supported Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Gill now needs support. Gambhir also demanded that Gill be given the same opportunities as Rohit and Kohli under Dhoni. Shubhman Gill, batting in the Boxing Day Test, was unbeaten on 28 off 38 balls at stumps on the first day.
English Summary: MS Dhoni gave Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma a longer run; unfair if Shubman Gill doesn’t get the same: Gautam Gambhir
