DHL opens parcel points in 250 Hema stores | Economy

Tomorrow Hema and DHL will open a DHL parcel point in more than 250 stores to ease the increasing pressure on the parcel service. Since the lockdown, an extremely large number of orders have been ordered online, which means that more parcel points are also required to meet the increased demand.

At the moment, 250 DHL parcel points are being set up in Hema branches that will open on Friday. According to DHL, the extra parcel points will help ensure that home deliveries run smoothly in the coming months. In addition to the 250 stores that will be accessible from tomorrow as a parcel point, it is expected that more branches of the department store will join this initiative in the coming weeks. Hema has a total of 550 stores in the Netherlands.

Packages only

At the parcel points, only parcels from DHL can be picked up or returned. Hema’s branches are during the lockdown not accessible to purchase other items. The two companies want to continue the service in the stores after the lockdown is over.

“Hema and many other retailers are working overtime when it comes to online orders, which inevitably puts extra pressure on home deliveries. For retailers, this online turnover is currently of vital importance, which is why we are happy to contribute to increasing the capacity of the delivery services. In this way, consumers can continue to order their products and we help prevent the delivery system from becoming overloaded, ” said a Hema spokesperson. DHL currently delivers more than 1 million parcels per day in the Netherlands.

For all Hema branches, the parcel points are open from Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
