DHL says goodbye to Orio al Serio airport. After 45 years, one of the giants in the distribution and handling of goods leaves the Bergamo airport to concentrate its efforts on the new Malpensa hub and on the Brescia area of Montichiari. On the ground there are 90 warehouse employees, whose fate is now more uncertain than ever. They will not lose their jobs: this was confirmed by the company to the unions Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl and UilTrasporti during the meeting on Wednesday in which it communicated the decision taken.
“The managers of the company have announced that the operational department of Dhl Express present in Orio al Serio will end its work after more than 20 years of activity and with the end of the current year”. In fact, if DHL Aviation began operating at the Orio al Serio airport in 1976, it was only in 1994 that it transformed the gateway into a hub-sized sorting and transit center, feeding the flow of small packages of local origin and destination. In recent years, the company has contributed to making Orio al Serio airport one of the most important courier air cargo handling centers until this last decision, long overdue.
