Acting West Manggarai Regent, Ondy Christian Siagian, revealed that cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) in the region had increased significantly compared to last year. He said that the peak of dengue fever outbreak usually occurs in the periods of January-March and October-December.
Ondy said that by mid-November 2024, there would be nearly 500 cases of dengue fever in West Manggarai. Even though, case fatality rate (CFR) the death rate due to diseases transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito is 0 percent, aka zero.
“In the period from January to 15 November 2024, the number of cases was 495 cases, the CFR was 0 percent,” said Ondy in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Monday (18/11 /2024).

The number of dengue fever cases this year has increased significantly compared to the same period in the previous year. In the period January-15 November 2023, West Manggarai recorded only 289 cases of dengue fever.
“This shows that there has been a double increase in cases this year,” said Ondy.
He explained that the highest cases of dengue fever this year were found in the Labuan Bajo Community Health Center and Batu Cermin areas, with 172 cases and 136 cases respectively. DHF cases in these two health center areas accounted for 62 percent of the total cases in West Manggarai Regency. The spread of cases increased from the same period in the previous year.
“The spread of cases is in 77 villages/sub-districts with the highest cases in Wae Kelambu Town which is 84 cases,” said Ondy.
Ondy has issued a circular dated 8 November 2024 regarding the awareness of the increase in dengue cases in the area. The West Manggarai Regency Government (Pemkab) held a coordination meeting regarding the prevention of dengue fever in the area.
