The handball players of HSV Hamburg just missed a surprise in the DHB Cup. Against the Füchse Berlin there was a 28:29 in their own hall. The SG Flensburg-Handewitt was surprisingly eliminated in Erlangen, the THW Kiel had no problems with the second division EHV Aue.
Against the Füchse Berlin, Hamburg, who had to do without the injured Casper Mortensen and Tobias Schimmelbauer, initially played at eye level (11./6:6). Then the favorite from the capital took advantage of the hosts’ mistakes mercilessly and pulled away to three goals (13/9:6). But the HSV handball players did not let themselves be disturbed, on the contrary: Spurred on by the numerous parades of their keeper Jogi Bitter, the hosts turned the game and took the lead (17/10:9).
Red card for Hamburg’s Weller
It would have been even better, but Niklas Weller missed a seven-meter throw and saw the red card because he had thrown the ball in the face of Füchse goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev (19th). That was not the only thing that threw the Hamburg team a little off: Many time penalties and seven meters at the break meant that they were a bit too high for the close game (14:17).
Although HSVH had to cope with two time penalties, they only came back to equalize (35./18:18) and then even took the lead (38./20:19). Now it was an exciting cup duel with spectacular plays, (gripping) gripping duels in the respective rows of cover and strong saves by the two goalkeepers.
When Jonas Gertges had scored the first three-goal lead for the hosts (51./26:23), it was indicated for the first time that evening that the Hamburgers could succeed in the surprise. Especially since goalkeeper Bitter once again surpassed himself and drove the Berliners to despair with his parades. Five minutes before the end, however, it was again 26:26. But the Berliners won because eight seconds before the end Paul Drux met and on the other side Fox keeper Milosavljev steered Azat Valiullin’s throw to the crossbar.

Flensburg with too many mistakes
The SG Flensburg-Handewitt showed a poor performance at HC Erlangen, against whom it had only reached a 27:27 in the league four weeks ago. The game was open until 12:12 (24th minute), then the Schleswig-Holstein break-in followed: Keeper Benjamin Buric received a two-minute penalty, Hampus Wanne discarded a seven-meter throw, Mads Mensah Larsen made a technical error – the The result: a 4-0 run by the hosts and the 12:16 deficit from the SG’s point of view.
After the break, there was no turnaround: Erlangen even increased the lead to six goals with two goals from Johannes Sellin (39./21:16). Although Flensburg fought its way back (58./25:28), but the rebellion came too late. After the false start to the season in the Bundesliga, where the SG is currently only seventh in the table with 5: 3 points, the defeat meant another sporting setback for the team of coach Maik Machulla.
THW Kiel careless for only a few minutes
In the Erzgebirgshalle Lößnitz, the favorite from Kiel quickly pulled away (3 / 3:01), but Aue was not shocked: After ten minutes, the second division had equalized again (6: 6). But it was only a short period of negligence on the part of the guests, who then turned up to a 5-0 run and threw out an 11: 6 (18th). The lead was also held at halftime (17:12).
The “zebras” also played their superiority in the second round with concentration – after 40 minutes Steffen Weinhold made it 25:17. The decision in this game had long been made because the EHV had nothing more to oppose the Kielers. Rune Dahmke’s goal in the 53rd minute already meant an eleven-goal lead (35:24). In the end, the favorite left it at a distance of twelve hits.
Nordhorn-Lingen throws Balingen out
Second division HSG Nordhorn-Lingen came up with a surprise: Lower Saxony prevailed in their own hall against the higher-class HBW Balingen-Weilstetten with 29:25. The hosts’ best thrower was Robert Weber with seven hits.
