DGS Bulletin. Portugal has the highest daily increase in cases in the last 32 days. Lisbon and Tagus Valley with 91.7% of new positive tests – Obse …

The number of new cases of infection in Portugal was not so high 32 days ago. May 8 had been the last time that the number of new positive tests had been above 400 (in fact, there were 553). In Tuesday’s bulletin, the DGS counted 421 more infected (the previous day, it had been 192). This is an increase of 1.2%. There are now 35,306 cases confirmed in Portugal since the beginning of the pandemic.

The country also registered 7 new deaths with Covid-19 (the previous day, there had been 6), an increase of 0.5% (on Monday, outside 0.4%). Portugal already counts 1,492 deaths.

Lisbon and the Tagus Valley continue to be the region with the most new cases and the weight in total daily infections has grown again: if on Monday, 77.6% of the new positive tests were from this region, the percentage rose to 91, 7% this Tuesday (last Thursday, it had been 93.3%). Thus, there are 386 more infected in the region (the previous day, it had been 149), an increase that the Government justifies with the “massive testing”. There, 5 of the 7 deaths were also made official (the remaining two were in the North region, which has accounted for 809 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic).

Sintra was again the municipality of Lisbon with the highest number of cases in one day (86). They followed: Lisbon (60), Loures (52), Amadora (42), Odivelas (35), Vila Franca de Xira (16) and Oeiras (13).

Although positive tests increased more in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, it is in the North that more cases have been confirmed since the beginning of the pandemic (a total of 16,967, compared with 13,608 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, which has already recorded 408 deaths ).

You have to go back to May 7th to find a higher number of people hospitalized. If there were more than 36 on that day, this is 28 more on Tuesday (up 7.7%, after falling 8% on Monday), for a total of 394. In intensive care, there are now 65 people , 10 more than the previous day, which represents an increase of 18.2%. For almost two months (since April 16), the value was not so high.

There are still 183 more recovered (0.9% more), with the total value, since the beginning of the pandemic, now standing at 21,339. This Tuesday, there were 30,176 people under surveillance by health authorities, plus 1,385, the highest rise in the last 22 days. The lethality rate decreased from 4.26% to 4.23%.

In the case of Alentejo, the region has not had so many new cases for more than a month (5), for a total of 273 positive tests since the beginning of the pandemic. This Tuesday was also the second consecutive day without cases in the South.

In the Center there are 11 more cases, in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, as we have seen, 386, and in the North, 19. The Azores and Madeira have not registered any new cases.

Following the trend of the last few days, the age group between 2nd and 29 years old was the one with the most new infections – 84 (double the previous day), which represents almost 20% of new cases. This is followed by the age group between 30 and 39 years old (79 cases – four times more than the previous day, which represents 18.7% of new infections) and between 40 and 49 (69, which is equivalent to 16.3%).

In addition, five of the seven deaths were in the age group above 80 years old, another between 70 and 79 years old and the remainder between 50 and 59 years old. There are over 240 cases of infected men and 181 of women. If on Monday there had been no deaths among women, this Tuesday was 6.
