The German Football League has canceled the upcoming Bundesliga game from Hertha BSC due to the corona quarantine of the capital club. The game of the Berliners at FSV Mainz 05 will not take place on Sunday as planned, said DFL managing director Christian Seifert on Friday on “Bild live”. Hertha’s games against SC Freiburg on Wednesday and FC Schalke 04 on April 24 are also about to be rescheduled.
“Of course we will think about how these games are to be rescheduled. That is a challenge for the game plan, that is clear,” said Seifert. “But it is also clear that something like this can happen during this time. In this respect, we will face this situation and think about how to approach the plan.”
In view of the emergency in Berlin, the DFL is again discussing a general hotel quarantine for all teams to secure the season’s final spurt, which was rejected at the beginning of the month. According to dpa information, such a regulation could now be made at least for the last two game days on May 15 and 22.
Many sporting decisions are still open, said Seifert with a view to the further course of the season before the 29th matchday this weekend. “It is forbidden to think about ending the season at this point in time. That is also the understanding of the 36 clubs. My gut feeling tells me that the German champions can be determined on May 22nd.”
After the positive corona cases from trainer Pal Dardai, the professionals Dodi Lukebakio, Marvin Plattenhardt and assistant trainer Admir Hamzagic, the entire Hertha squad including support staff was quarantined by the Berlin authorities until April 29. For Hertha, the situation in the relegation battle is worsening.
