DFDS Danish Boat Battling Severe Weather – Cancelled Departures, Person Evacuated, and Violent Waves

The Danish boat is weatherproof at sea due to the heavy snow, DFDS confirms to Dagbladet.

It runs from Oslo to Copenhagen, but does not have the opportunity to add, a spokesperson for DFDS informs Denmark’s Radio (DR).

There are also several canceled ferry departures due to the wind conditions.

The Danish Defense Force states that they have evacuated a person with a rescue helicopter from the boat as a result of illness, according to DR.

– Never experienced anything like it

One of those on the boat is Roy Johansen from Sarpsborg.

He tells Dagbladet that they should actually have docked at 10 o’clock on Wednesday morning, but that due to the weather conditions in Copenhagen they have not yet come ashore.

– I love traveling by Danskebåten, and last year I traveled 44 times round trip by ferry. I have never experienced anything like it, he tells Dagbladet just before 12.30.

Johansen states that the wind is quite strong, and that the passengers have not been told when they will land.

– Now we have been told that we will get a free lunch, so it is at least very nice, he says.

Violent waves: – Exploded

He states that it seems that some of the other passengers are worried about the journey ahead.

– Fortunately, I am not going on from Copenhagen, but we will see if there will be a boat or bus home to Sarpsborg for me, says Johansen

– Rarely

DFDS’ press contact tells Dagbladet that there are around 900 passengers on board the boat. He does not have an overview of how many of them are Norwegian.

– This happens from time to time, but it is rare that the wind is as strong as it is today, he says.

It is not known how long the ferry will have to wait before it can come ashore. According to DR, the ferry is now in the Kattegat, between Zealand and Sweden.

– It is now lying down and waiting for the weather to improve and for it to be added. We do not know how long it will last, the press department of DFDS informs DR.
