Women’s World Cup: DFB delegation exchanges ideas with FIFA
Zürich The German Football Association and the world association FIFA exchanged ideas in Zurich – probably also about the still unclear TV rights situation at the women’s football World Cup this summer.
Both sides agreed that women’s football should be given an appropriate value, for example when selling TV and broadcasting rights, FIFA said. The German delegation was led by DFB General Secretary Heike Ullrich.
Around three months before the tournament, it is still unclear where and how the final round matches (July 20 to August 20) will be broadcast in Germany. According to reports, the negotiations are difficult, FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently announced that women’s football should be massively strengthened financially.
The world association is distributing 110 million US dollars in bonuses for the tournament in Australia and South Korea, more than three times as much as at the World Cup in France four years ago. According to Infantino, by 2027 the bonus payments should be as high as at a men’s World Cup.
The DFB selection, coached by national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, will face Morocco, Colombia and South Korea in the group stage of this summer’s World Cup.
