64 teams, 63 games, one winner – the DFB Cup is the “easiest” way for German clubs to win a title. For the spectators in front of the TV sets and live streams, it is certainly the most exciting competition in German football. DFB Cup on TV and live stream: These duels are on free TV
64 teams from all over Germany compete in the DFB Cup. All 18 Bundesliga teams, all 18 second division teams and four teams from the third division are taking part. In addition, 21 teams qualify via the cup competitions of the national associations of the DFB and one team each from the regional associations with the most members (Bavaria, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia). In the knockout system, the winner is determined in a total of 63 games. The 1st round, 2nd round, round of 16, quarterfinals and semifinals lead to the final.
The DFB Cup games are broadcast live on TV and live streams on Sky, ARD and ZDF. Sky holds the majority of the broadcasting rights for the DFB Cup. The pay TV giant shows all 63 matches of the DFB Cup live on TV and live stream. ARD and ZDF share the rights. The public broadcasters hold the broadcasting rights for a total of 15 games per season and show them live on TV and in live streams. Both the semifinals and the final will be shown on ARD and ZDF.

The highlights of the games will all be shown on free TV. ARD and ZDF share the highlight rights for DFB Cup games. The clips can be seen both on free-to-air TV and on demand at Sportschau.de and zdf.de. Sky also shows highlight clips in the broadcast and makes them available to customers online.

DAZN is now also showing the DFB Cup
The DAZN streaming service is new to the DFB Cup. Sky’s big competitor has also acquired broadcasting rights for the DFB Cup since this season. DAZN always loads the highlight clips of the duels on its platform from midnight. In addition to DAZN, Sport1 also owns rights to the DFB Cup. The Munich broadcaster can use the highlights in its reporting the day after the games.

The 2022/2023 DFB Cup started with the first round on July 29th. As always, the final will take place one week after the last matchday of the Bundesliga on June 3rd and will be held in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. The new year 2023 starts on January 31/01. February with the round of 16. The draw for the round of 16 took place in December 2022.
