DFB Cup game in Cologne: Our storks challenged in the second round

DFB Cup, floodlit game: On Tuesday everything is set for an exciting cup night. In the RheinEnergieStadion our storks meet the second division team 1. FC Köln. Kick-off is at 8:45 p.m.

1. FC Köln recently suffered two defeats in a row. The Bundesliga relegated team’s season hasn’t gone as well as they would have hoped on the Rhine. After ten match days, Effzeh is in twelfth place, four points away from 16th place.

After the 1:5 defeat against SV Darmstadt, Cologne lost 1:2 against SC Paderborn last weekend. Effzeh initially led, but gave the game away in the final phase due to a double strike from Paderborn.

However, head coach Gerhard Struber’s team also showed this season that there is another way: convincing victories against Braunschweig (5:0), Schalke 04 (3:1) and Ulm (2:0) testify to Cologne’s performance. In the DFB Cup they won 3-2 away after extra time against SV Sandhausen.

In the DFB Cup, the only thing that counts is getting through – this mantra applies to both clubs on Tuesday. The crowd in the RheinEnergieStadion will drive 1. FC Köln forward for 90 minutes – a difficult task for Marcel Rapp’s team.

Personnel situation

In addition to Colin Kleine-Bekel (rehab after a torn cruciate ligament) and Andu Kelati (knee problems), Lewis Holtby (back problems) and Alexander Bernhardsson (muscle injury in the adductor area) are also not on board.
