In the DFB Cup, third division team 1860 Munich put up a strong fight against Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, but missed another surprise in the first round. Unlike Hertha BSC on Friday evening, all six Bundesliga clubs played in the next round on Saturday afternoon. Frankfurt still had the biggest problems because the lions not only got in the back, but effectively pressed – and had better chances for a long time. The 35-year-old Munich striker Sascha Mölders, who scored 15 goals and made 15 assists last season in the third division, barely missed the Frankfurt goal with a volley (38th minute).

Only after the break did the favorite from Frankfurt really play an attack: The Dutchman Bas Dost put volley across, so that André Silva only had to nod off into the empty goal (51.). At the next goal, the strikers swapped tasks: This time the Portuguese Silva played for Dost, who headed from close range (56th). 1860 came back into the game after a converted penalty from Phillipp Steinhart (79th), but could not equalize. Mölders had already scored before, but the goal of the veteran had been revoked.

RB Leipzig did not have a month of summer break after losing the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain. As compensation, there was a gift in the first competitive game of the new season: Nuremberg goalkeeper Christian Mathenia played a pass straight into the feet of Leipzig’s Hwang Hee-chan, who had come from Salzburg in the summer, after just three minutes. The ball came to Amadou Haidara via Marcel Sabitzer, who curled the ball from the edge of the penalty area into the left corner (3rd).

For the rest of the game, Leipzig found it surprisingly difficult, as Nuremberg had only managed to stay in the second division in relegation. In the summer, the “Club” had signed Robert Klauss, the assistant to Leipzig’s coach Julian Nagelsmann, under whom the Nuremberg team showed a strong performance. But it wasn’t enough for a surprise, rather the favorite increased before a possibly exciting final phase. Hwang was involved again, this time fitting from the right wing into the backcourt: Yussuf Poulsen pushed in (67th). Hwang himself then made the final score (90th).

The most exciting development in Cologne took place before the game. FC striker Jhon Córdoba asked coach Markus Gisdol not to start playing because he was in negotiations with another club. That’s what Gisdol said before the game on Sky. But even without the best scorer from Cologne last season – the Colombian had scored 13 goals – the Cologne team shot the regional league team from Altglienicke. The game took place in Cologne because most amateur clubs were forced to change home rights without their own stadium being sold out.
Without a striker, captain Jonas Hector (17th), Elvis Rexhbecaj (36th, 63rd), Salih Özcan (69th) and Dominick Drexler scored four midfielders and a defender in Rafael Czichos (43rd). Altglienicke was also dangerous, but narrowly missed the consolation goal several times. First Cologne’s Jorge Meré put his goalkeeper Timo Horn in distress with a back pass before the break (38th). Horn then blocked a close-range shot from Tolcay Cigerci with his foot to the side (52 ‘).

The cup premiere for Union Fürstenwalde got off to a promising start: The regional league team from Brandenburg took the lead against VfL Wolfsburg after just nine minutes. Striker Darryl Geurts converted a penalty for the outsider. Earlier, Wolfsburg of all people had fouled debutant Maxence Lacroix in the corner of the box. But the lead did not last long: João Victor first pushed a rebound behind the line in pursuit (23rd) and then took the lead (29th).
In the second half, Yannick Gerhardt passed the ball through the keeper’s legs and into the goal (60th), but apparently he wasn’t really happy. Rather, the Wolfsburg seemed dissatisfied with their performance, the fourth division had kept the game open for so long. Josuha Guilavogui extended a cross from Gerhardt with a head to the final score (77th).

FC Augsburg also lived up to its role as favorites against the top division club Eintracht Celle. Ruben Vargas, who had been sent behind the defense by Florian Niederlechner, made the start. The Swiss turned casually (20th). Ten minutes later, Daniel Caligiuri scored 2-0 in his competitive debut for FCA. In the summer he came from Schalke on a free transfer.
–
Shortly after the break, the situation was finally settled: Alfred Finnbogason (47th), Florian Niederlechner (57th) and André Hahn (66th) increased the score to 5-0. Substitute Fredrik Jensen managed a brace in the closing stages (88th / 90th).

When Borussia Mönchengladbach start in the first round of the cup in Bremen, there is a shooting festival: In the 2018/2019 season, Borussia won 11-1 against BSC Hastedt. And the Bundesliga club also held itself harmless against FC Oberneuland. Patrick Herrmann opened the scoring with a double strike (13th, 14th), before the break Jonas Hofmann (19th), Ramy Bensebaini (25th) and Nico Elvedi (35th) decided the game that had never actually been open . In the second half, new international Florian Neuhaus scored twice (52nd, 84th), and Ibrahima Traoré was also successful in between (76th).
