Dynamo captain Kutschke on the bench
Compared to the 4-2 win against Cottbus in the 3rd league, Dresden made two changes to their starting eleven. Vinko Sapina and Christoph Daferner replaced Oliver Batista Meier and captain Stefan Kutschke (both on the bench). Fortuna also made two changes compared to the 0-0 draw against Karlsruhe. Jordy de Wijs and Jona Niemiec started for captain Andre Hoffmann (bench) and Shinta Appelkamp (muscular problems).
Daferner scores to take the lead
Dynamo started with a lot of energy and immediately put the Rhinelanders under pressure. The Black and Yellows had the first chance through Robin Meißner, who put a long-range shot just wide of the goal (4th minute). Four minutes later, the SGD had another good opportunity. This time it was Lukas Boerder who missed the ball by just a few centimeters at the far post after a corner. After a strong start, Dresden were rewarded in the 11th minute by Lukas Daferner, who sunk the ball into the Düsseldorf goal from a tight angle to make it 1-0.
Dynamo follows up
Anyone who thought that the guests from the 2nd Bundesliga would now react in defiance was initially mistaken, as Dynamo continued to go full throttle in attack. A long-range shot from Niklas Hauptmann again narrowly missed the goal (21st minute). After half an hour, the game calmed down a bit, but Fortuna’s defense was still very prone to mistakes, which were not consistently punished by Dresden. Düsseldorf also continued to be harmless in attack, and so it was limited to embarrassing shots from distance until half-time.
Fortuna better after the break
That changed after the break. Fortuna suddenly pressed with all their might. 45 seconds after the restart, Dresden were lucky when Jonas Niemiec, standing free from 14 meters, was stopped by the brilliantly reacting SGD keeper Tim Schreiber. Shortly afterwards, the keeper saved again with a brilliant save after a shot from Felix Klaus (48th minute). Another 60 seconds later, Vinko Sapina was in the right place after the Dresden player cleared a header from Düsseldorf on the line.
Dynamo survives pressure phase – Meißner strikes back
Dynamo then needed ten minutes to survive the guests’ pressure and to start making their own mark again. In the 69th minute, Dynamo’s supporters finally got some relief when a through ball from Oliver Batista Meier, who had just been substituted on, reached Meißner, who increased the score to 2-0 from a half-left position.
Kutschke misses third goal
Stefan Kutschke, who was also substituted, even had the chance to make it 3-0, but Fortuna keeper Florian Kastenmeier was just able to parry his shot (80′). Düsseldorf then tried with all their might, but Dynamo held out and held on to the 2-0 lead.
