The essentials in brief: Borussia Dortmund and SC Freiburg barely reached the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. Freiburg won the home game against second division soccer club FC St. Pauli 2-1 (1-1, 0-1) after extra time. Lukas Daschner (42nd minute) put the visitors ahead, Matthias Ginter (90th + 3) and Michael Gregoritsch (119th) turned the game around on Wednesday evening.

BVB without Reus in Hanover
According to media reports, Borussia Dortmund will have to do without Marco Reus in this Wednesday’s DFB Cup match at Hannover 96. The captain did not travel to Lower Saxony with the team for the second round duel (18:00 ). The Ruhr News had reported on it first.
The midfielder left the training ground around half an hour earlier on Tuesday in a private car. The international (33) had been out for almost four weeks and was recovering from an ankle ligament injury and a cold. Reus lost 2-0 against 1. FC Union Berlin replaced at halftime.
