US company Dexcom to Set up Manufacturing Facility in Athenry, Creating 1,500 Jobs
Dexcom, a global leader in glucose monitoring for people with diabetes, has announced plans to construct its newest manufacturing facility in Athenry. The move is expected to create approximately 1,500 jobs, which includes 500 construction jobs and up to 1,000 high-tech positions. The €300 million investment over five years is being supported by IDA Ireland, and is subject to planning permission. This will be Dexcom’s first manufacturing site in Europe, expanding upon the company’s existing capabilities in the US and Malaysia. With the continued success of the Dexcom G7 in Europe, the company’s Executive Vice President of Global Operations, Barry Regan, said that Ireland’s exceptional talent pool and established MedTech sector make Athenry the perfect location for the new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. The new venture has been congratulated upon by An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, who described it as one of the biggest single private sector investments made in the West of Ireland.
