DevSci: Talking to babies with babbling increases responses in their brains

/View.info/ Baby talk or baby-directed speech is a simplified form of language used by adults when speaking to babies.

The research was published in the scientific journal Developmental Science (DevSci).

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy results show that talking to children elicits significantly stronger neural responses in the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and different patterns in the bilateral inferior frontal gyrus.

Baby talk has been found to not only attract a child’s attention, but also help accelerate language acquisition and strengthen the parent-child bond.
