Two months ago, we learned that Devon Allen was going to move from athletics tracks to NFL lawns next summer. In the meantime, the 27-year-old American hurdler has just signed the third best performance of all time in the 110m hurdles, this Sunday, at the New York meeting in 12”84 (+1.6 m/s), ahead of Grant Holloway (13”06) and Daniel Roberts (13”17). The world record of another American, Aries Merritt, who ran in 12”80 at the Van Damme Memorial in Brussels (Belgium), in 2012, is visibly in danger. Allen, who erased his handicap on Holloway in the middle of the race and produced a terrific terminal effort, will be in contention on Thursday in Oslo and then on Saturday in Paris in the next two stages of the Diamond League.

Note also the good performance of Christian Coleman in the 100m, who achieved his best time of the year in 9”92 (+1.4 m/s), ahead of the Jamaican Ackeem Blake (9”95) and the American Marvin Bracy (10”03). On the women’s side, victory over 100m for American Aleia Hobbs in 10”83 (+1.3 m/s) ahead of her compatriots Sha’Carri Richardson (10”85) and Teahna Daniels (10”99). Richardson won the 200m an hour later in 22.38 (+1.7m/s).

Still on the half-lap, the meeting which took place at Icahn Stadium ended with the very convincing victory of Noah Lyles in 19”61 (+1.3 m/s), very well ahead of Kyree King ( 20”02) and Brandon Carnes (20”07). The American world champion in the 200m, in 2019, signs the second best world performance of the season behind the 19”49 of his young compatriot Erriyon Knighton.
