Young Striker Makes Impact in Debut Match
In a thrilling turn of events, an 18-year-old striker replaced Rasmus Hojlund in the 90th minute of the match. Wheatley, the young player, received some valuable advice from Bruno Fernandes, as he revealed in a post-match interview for the club’s television channel, MUTV.
“Bruno pulled me aside and said, ‘I have 9 minutes to try to create a goal for you.’ So, I tried to position myself well, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out in the end. I hope it will happen soon,” Wheatley stated.
When asked about his impressions after his debut, the young striker expressed his admiration for the club’s rich history, especially regarding the academy.
“It’s a great club with a great history, especially when it comes to the academy. It’s a great honor that I could debut and become the academy graduate number 250. It’s something special,” he said.
Reflecting on the moments leading up to his entrance into the game, Wheatley shared his excitement and nerves.
“I was excited when I got the signal that I was going in. There were some nerves, but as soon as I changed and was ready to go on, I felt excitement. I wanted to do my best for the team,” the English player added.
With another opportunity potentially coming his way in the upcoming match against Burnley at Old Trafford, Wheatley is eager to showcase his skills once again under the guidance of Erik ten Haga.
