Raphael Varane’s Contract Situation at Manchester United
Raphael Varane’s contract with Manchester United is set to expire in June 2024. The Red Devils have the option to extend the agreement with the player for an additional season, but it would have to be done under the current terms.
Varane, who earns £340,000 per week, is one of the highest-paid players at Manchester United. However, the club is reluctant to pay such a hefty sum to the experienced defender in the upcoming season.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United and Raphael Varane have engaged in another round of discussions regarding a new contract. Despite the talks, there is still no agreement between the club and the player, and it seems unlikely that the situation will change in the coming weeks. The Red Devils are prepared to let the 30-year-old leave for free.
Varane joined Manchester United in the summer of 2021 and has since played 93 games for the Red Devils. However, it remains uncertain whether the Frenchman will reach the milestone of 100 appearances for the club. Varane suffered an injury in a recent clash with Chelsea (3-4), and his return date to the field is unknown.
Starting from January, Varane is allowed to hold discussions with foreign clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement. In recent months, the French defender has been linked to a potential transfer to Saudi Arabia, among other destinations.
