REMBANG – To find out the development of the foot and mouth disease virus (PMK) in livestock that have received booster vaccines, officers from the Agriculture and Food Service (Dintanpan) of Rembang Regency went around and took blood samples from the cows, and gave them vitamins.
Sub-coordinator of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health, drh Erdyanti Permatasari said FMD is a disease caused by a virus and is highly contagious. PMK vaccine administration is effective in limiting the disease and the spread of infection.
Delivered, his party has given the PMK vaccine to 130 thousand cows. Starting from the first dose of vaccine, to the booster. So, to study the immunity of these livestock, his party conducts monitoring and evaluation with these livestock.
“Later the serum (cow blood sample) will be sent to BBVet to check for NSP antibodies. If there are still NSP antibodies in the livestock, it means that the virus can still replicate,” he explained, while taking a sample of cow blood in Randuagung Village, Sumber District, Thursday (7/9/2023).
Dyan said, if there are still NSP antibodies, the vaccination must continue. The timeframe is once every six months.
“There are 1,106 cows whose blood samples will be taken. With 39 officers each taking blood samples from 20 cows,” he added.
Resident of Randuagung, Wariman said, currently has four cows. One of the cows was previously infected with Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) but has recovered. Now he has also received the FMD vaccine booster.
“The vaccine is every six months, it’s free, it really helps residents,” he said.
