Development of Dying Light 2 should not go well

According to a recent report, the development of “Dying Light 2” is not going well. Techland could even be taken over by Microsoft.

According to “PolskiGamedev.pl”, which has been a reliable source of information about the Polish developer scene in the past, the development of “Dying Light 2” is “completely messed up” at the moment. According to an anonymous Techland developer, the game’s storyline and mechanics are constantly flowing, hampering progress.

“Dying Light 2 is a total mess, first we focused on the story, then on the gameplay … constantly changing game mechanics. Morale is at an all-time low, the leadership has no idea what they’re doing. A disorganization at the highest levels like this is embarrassing. It’s still not known what this game is supposed to be. Other studios are concerned about bug fixes a year before the premiere. We don’t even have a vertical slice, “said the anonymous Developer.

One of the main reasons for the problems is said to be the conflict between chief author Chris Avellone and creative director Adrian Ciszewsk. While Chris Avellone wants to create a complicated, multi-layered RPG-style story, that shouldn’t fit the kind of game Techland wants to develop. Chris Avellone commented as follows: “I like working on Dying Light 2 and I like working with Techland. Of course we discussed individual elements of the project and of course it changed during the subsequent iterations … but that’s a normal one Part of the creation process. “

The crunch that Techland is currently experiencing should also have a negative impact. According to the report, around 50 employees left the 300-person studio last year, including Pawel Rolheder, the chief technology officer who was instrumental in the company’s Chrome engine. PolskiGamedev.pl has even heard that Microsoft may be planning to acquire Techland. So far there is no date for “Dying Light 2”, which should actually appear in spring 2020.
