Developing Leisure Activities with Boys and Girls: Educational and Human Rights Perspective

Not only have they learned techniques and resources to develop leisure activities with boys and girls, but they have also done so from an educational and human rights perspective. The first course of Youth Activities and Free Time Monitors concludes, taught by Cáritas Diocesana of Albacete, recently approved as an Animation School. In this first edition, 25 people participated, mainly volunteers, educators and young people who participate in the programs, who have enjoyed a unique experience.

Throughout 100 hours of theoretical training, to which must be added another 150 practices that they will have to carry out in the next 2 years, they have been able to work on children’s and youth education activities, group processes, and animation techniques and resources. In addition, they have learned to formulate projects, techniques for camping, alternative sports from an inclusive perspective, expression and creativity and even risk prevention and first aid. But what they take away above all is the view, values and way of working of Cáritas, whose actions take into account the reality of boys and girls, encouraging their participation and creating spaces of fraternity.

Cáritas considers it essential that young people be equipped with a different perspective and participate, through solidarity and coexistence, in spaces that offer children healthy leisure and free time spaces. Through the Animation School, Cáritas Diocesana de Albacete aims to train the entity’s own agents so that they can participate in actions with children, such as camps or summer schools. Another of its objectives is to also be able to accompany and train young people who participate in its social action programs so that in the future they can obtain a job in the leisure sector. In a few weeks, a second edition of this course will begin in Villamalea, in which young people from this town will participate who will also be trained to be able to carry out leisure and free time activities from an educational and human rights perspective.
