Developer evangelist: “I am my own manager”

Gitlab, an open source end-to-end software development platform, was founded by Dmitri Saparoschez and Sytse Sijbrandij in 2014 in San Francisco. In the beginning there was indeed office space, but after a few days hardly any employees came to work there, which is why the company decided to switch the entire operation to “all remote”. Gitlab now has 1,300 employees in around 66 countries. Michael Friedrich has also been part of it since March 2020. Born in Linz, he is currently working for the platform near Nuremberg. “I’ve always seen it a bit as a personal adventure. The most important thing was that my workplace is not in the living room. I know myself, then I don’t work eight hours, but 24 hours.”
