Within the framework of the Future Hub accelerator, green technology start – ups together with Baltic developed a series of pilot projects for market leaders on various sustainability challenges.

“The Rimi e-store operates in all three Baltic countries and we use more than 250,000 paper bags per month for deliveries, which together account for over 130 tons of paper per year. And despite the fact that these bags are fully recyclable, most of the We have a positive experience with the introduction of waste-free initiatives in Rimi stores, but when it comes to e-commerce, such solutions are much more difficult to implement. That ‘s why we decided to work with Packoorang to develop an innovative waste – free packaging solution for food delivery, “explains Zanda Shadre, Head of Corporate Communications at Rimi Baltic.

This packaging solution allows you to deliver your e-shop purchases in a convenient, flexible and weatherproof bag instead of in paper bags. The Packoorang bag is reusable at least 50-100 times, foldable and made of a material approved for food packaging and storage. The customer will be able to return the used bags to the driver of the e-shop at the next delivery or in the store. After each use and return, the bags will be cleaned to food safety standards.

Rimi will continue to develop and refine this product with Packoorang to ensure that the bags are durable, durable and easy to use at all stages of delivery. It is planned that Rimi Baltic will implement this waste-free solution in one of its e-stores to test the bags and collect the first customer reviews. After that, the upgrade is planned to be implemented in all “Rimi” e-stores.

Packoorang is a fast-growing Norwegian state-sponsored company from Oslo. The concept of the new company is focused on the production of reusable packaging and the creation of a sustainable circulation system for e-commerce and internal product flow. The new company cooperates with global logistics companies such as DHL, Royal Mail, DPD, FedEx, etc.

“Rimi Latvia” is one of the largest food retail companies in Latvia with more than 130 stores of various formats. The “Rimi” e-store has also started operating in 2019. Rimi Latvia is part of the company Rimi Baltic, which unites more than 290 Rimi stores in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
