Security issues and related topics have become increasingly important, so in view of what is happening in the world, the School of Business Administration Wealth together with five other universities from Spain, Lithuania, Finland, Norway and the Netherlands, will develop sustainable and modern security risk management frameworks and guidelines that can be integrated into higher education institutions as a curriculum, and will establish a network of sustainable security professionals.
The ERASMUS + project “Digital Education Tools for Security Risk Management” will develop comprehensive and up-to-date digital learning materials and tools, which will be compiled in a single web platform containing the latest information on security risk management aspects. The platform will be available to all security experts, students and faculty.
The project will also create a sustainable network of European university security professionals, as well as create a solid basis for common and high-quality teaching materials for any European Union (EU) university in the field of security. An intensive course for students from all countries involved in the project will be organized to test the developed materials and tools.
Within the framework of the project, cooperation has been established with partner universities from Spain, Lithuania, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands and Latvia. School of Business Administration Turība has undertaken to be the leading partner of the project, from Latvia as experts, inviting its cooperation partner – the Association of Security Professionals. Project participants will share their experiences, make various proposals, help develop the necessary materials and highlight the challenges facing security professionals, such as migration, cyber-attacks and other emerging challenges, including the virus crisis.
Kārlis Apalups, a member of the board of the Association of Security Professionals (DPA), emphasizes: “The goal of international projects, especially in the European Union, is to share experience and standardize standards by raising them to a high level. It is especially important that in this project, together with the partners of other countries, we develop digital security education tools that will allow both the transfer of Latvia’s experience to the partners of other countries and Latvia to take over the experience of countries that started talking about 50 years ago. We do not want to take it for granted. The results of this project open the door to the world of Latvia’s security industry. “
“It is important to understand the body of knowledge and skills of young security professionals that will allow them to successfully manage risks in different sectors of the economy and companies. Today, the duties of a security specialist extend beyond the protection of material values, a security specialist must be able to help in various security crisis situations today, and must also be able to prevent potential security risks. There is still a shortage of highly qualified specialists in the industry who are able to orient themselves and look at safety more broadly – both by providing physical security and focusing on occupational safety and fire safety. It is therefore important to take appropriate steps to train such professionals by adapting school education models, as is the case in other countries. There must be a clear understanding of the role of a security specialist in the company and a high level of security must be ensured. Every security specialist must work in such a way that they are able to assess potential risks and prevent them from the very beginning, including by promoting cooperation between the private and public sectors in various security-related activities, ”adds Ivita Kīsnica, project expert and Vice-Dean of Turiba Law School.
In the autumn of 2024, a number of information events will take place – an international conference in Latvia, national seminars in the Netherlands and Finland, and online events organized by partners in Spain, Norway and Lithuania.
The Digital Education Tools for Security Risk Management project will run until the end of 2024 and is funded by the ERASMUS + program. Project number: 2021-1-LV01-KA220-HED-000023056.
