Devastation in Eastern Libya: Hurricane Daniel Claims over 2,000 Lives

Al-Marsad newspaper: Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, commander of the forces of eastern Libya (the Libyan National Army), said that the heavy rains that fell on the regions of eastern Libya, as a result of Hurricane Daniel, resulted in the deaths of more than 2,000 people, and the injury and loss of thousands.

Haftar pointed out during a video he posted on his Facebook account that the Libyan regions, cities and villages in the Green Mountain were exposed to very heavy amounts of rain, the peak of which reached 400 millimetres, and this is a number that has not been recorded throughout the history of Libya. He continued: “The damage cannot be described.”

He added: “The search is still ongoing for the missing people who were swept away by strong torrents, which resulted in massive floods, the collapse of a number of dams and the collapse of many buildings.”
