Devastating Floods in Libya: Over 10,000 Missing and 1,000 Bodies Recovered

Derna (Libya): It is reported that 10,000 people are missing due to torrential rains and floods in Libya. Due to the flood, the dams near the city of Derna broke and the scale of the disaster increased. A quarter of the eastern city of Derna was destroyed, news agencies reported. In Derna alone, 2,200 people died and 1,000 bodies were recovered.

Officials expressed concern that the death toll could rise. Visual media reported vehicles being swept away and buildings collapsing in the city of Derna. About 700 dead bodies were hidden by the authorities. Civil Aviation Minister and emergency committee member Hichem Abu Chiovat said 25% of the city had disappeared and bodies were scattered.

Meanwhile, the head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) delegation, Tamer Ramadan, said in Geneva that the number of missing was 10,000.
