Devastating Floods in Libya Leave Thousands Dead and Missing

More than 2,000 people were killed and about ten thousand others are missing in Libya after devastating floods that swept many areas there.

The catastrophic scale of the scene became fully apparent as daylight dawned on her.

The ground cracked, houses were swept away and collapsed, and thousands were killed, wounded and missing, as if it were a scene from the end of the world for that afflicted area.

The reason for this is the storm “Daniel”, which struck Greece and Bulgaria a week before Libya.

The storm made its way across the Mediterranean, gathering strength before collapsing with its cargo over Libyan territory.

Heavy rains resulting from the storm, the likes of which the country had never witnessed, led to the collapse of two water dams in Derna, which led to the flooding and destruction of a quarter of the city, and rescuers faced disastrous scenes.

Meanwhile, aid has begun to flow in from neighboring countries, in addition to food and medical supplies that are much needed in these situations.

While many fear that aid will become a political issue in the divided country, which has been divided between two competing governments since 2014, and then it will be one disaster on top of another.

CNN’s Eleni Giukos reports more details.
