A fire consumed an apartment located on Hughes Avenue in the Bronx and left a couple of families practically on the street.
The fire was reported Monday afternoon in apartment number one located at the intersection of Hughes and 182nd Street.
According to those affected, the incident could have started in the stove.
“My daughter called me that the stove turned on by itself and she didn’t know what to do, I told her to take the children out because they were in the house while I was working,” commented Gabriela Ramírez, one of the single mothers affected.
She and Patricia García returned to their house after being alerted about the fire and saw how all their belongings were consumed by the fire.
“Everything was useless, there is nothing that can be recovered,” Patricia lamented.
“Everything was ruined, I have no bed, no clothes, nothing, we were left with nothing and we are single mothers,” she added.
The two mothers, along with their children, ages 4, 5, 12 and 18, do not know where they will live from now on.
“They are going to give us two or three days and from there until the social worker gets things sorted, I don’t know what is going to happen to us, where we are going to live,” said Patricia.
