A major fire has destroyed a warehouse in the South Holland town of Moerkapelle. It concerns the building of a seed business, the fire brigade reports. A firefighter was slightly injured while extinguishing the fire and was taken to hospital.
The fire in the warehouse on Bredeweg broke out around midnight and quickly grew bigger. Three houses next to the warehouse were evacuated as a precaution. “Also because of the intensity of the fire,” says a fire brigade spokesperson. The residents were able to return home around 3:30 am.
The fire released a lot of smoke and soot particles also fell in the area. The emergency services have ordered a large crane to pull the building apart so that the fire brigade can better reach the fire.
Residents of Moerkapelle and Boskoop have been informed about the fire via an NL-Alert. People who are bothered by the smoke are advised to close windows and doors and turn off ventilation.
